New in the Shop for 2021

Hi I am Ghretta, I have recently started at Pinewoods as Shop Supervisor. I hope to meet you soon in the shop if we have not met already!

You may have seen some changes recently if you have visited the shop. The ambition for the shop is to make every effort to operate in a sustainable way, reducing our carbon footprint and stamping out waste! We are changing much of our product line to sell more local produce. So far, we have introduced meat from our local butcher Arthur Howell, local gins, whisky and rums, and handmade soaps produced here in Wells, just to name a few.

The shop is aiming to increase the number of eco-friendly products, such as 100% biodegradable and compostable cleaning sponges and cloths, to BIO plastic buckets and spades made from sugarcane. We are moving away from plastic bottles, to either aluminium, glass, cardboard or recycled plastic and reducing the provision of single use plastics across the range where possible.

If you have been into the shop recently you will have noticed it is very different to previous years. All our plastic toys were donated to the Salvation Army’s Christmas appeal and have been replaced with retro toys and games, along with eco-friendly crab lines.

We have started up the bakery again, with fresh baguettes and pastries every morning and you can also buy or order your daily newspapers. We are soon going to be selling take away coffee too.

I am always happy to hear what our owners and guests think of the changes and would love to hear your suggestions and ideas with the view to finding more goods to suit everyone’s taste.

Please do come along and visit our shop and watch it evolve over the coming months.

I hope to see you soon,

Ghretta Cooper
Pinewoods Shop Supervisor
